BRIEF:
We were commissioned by Open Restitution Africa to produce an animated video announcing the launch of their Open Data Platform. The platform brings together years of research into African restitution processes, making this knowledge accessible in one place — built by Africans, for Africans.
APPROACH:
Working from the script, we translated the narrative into a visual language that could carry both clarity and weight. The animation draws from data, tech, and interface aesthetics, while staying grounded in ORA’s existing visual identity — particularly its woodcut and linocut-inspired illustration style. Rather than overloading the video with information, we focused on rhythm and legibility: how ideas unfold, how visuals guide understanding, and how sound supports the pacing. The aim was to make the platform feel usable and immediate, while holding onto the political and cultural urgency behind it.
DELIVERED:
2-minute animated launch video
