Bubblegum Club is a cultural organisation and collective working between Johannesburg and Geneva. Their practice embraces experimental approaches to media, spanning visual art, publishing, and broader cultural work. Bubblegum Club situates its practice in a space that is both experimental and accessible. The collective’s name pays homage to the rich legacy of 1980s bubblegum music - a genre that combined cutting-edge electronic technologies with local and international influences to create something playfully avant-garde yet widely popular. Extending this spirit of “popular modernism” into the present,Bubblegum Club engages with the fragmented, accelerated realities of network culture.Their work has been presented at Aperture Summer Open (New York), Kampnagel(Hamburg), Spielart Festival (Munich), and A4 ArtsFoundation (Cape Town).
